LA Maritime Institute to host Grand Marshal aboard Tall Ship

November 2, 2017 – The LA Maritime Institute will host this year’s Grand Marshal, LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn who represents the 4th District aboard the Tall Ship ‘Exy Johnson.’ Aboard the vessel will be guests of the Grand Marshal, staff and community members.

The 110 ft, square-rigged brigantines, Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson, were built in San Pedro and commissioned in 2003. The vessels and their crews are the official Tall Ships and Maritime Ambassadors of the City of Los Angeles.

They are specifically designed for the TopSail Program as ‘Sailing School Vessels’ that provide character-building sailing adventures to the youth of our communities. During the year the vessels provided 291 program sails in local waters, 22 voyages along the coast, and to tall ship festivals in San Diego and Dana Point.
